Action-Housing is a non-profit organization specializing in housing matters.  Since 1989, Action-Housing has been meeting the needs of the population of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton (mainly in the East of RMOC) by providing information about private market and social housing, helping people in their search for adequate housing, and offering legal advice on housing matters.

It also offers a free advertisement service for private market units.  Both landlords and renters can benefit from this service by placing ads in our data base. Our services are offered through the main office, located in Vanier, and  satellite offices.  Services at the satellite offices are by appointment only.

Services for tenants
At Action Housing you can:

  • Search the local newspapers & database for available housing.
  • meet with a caseworker who can assist you in your housing search on the private market;
  • meet a caseworker who can help you apply for subsidized housing;
  • a caseworker can also help you solve your housing problems such as, eviction, maintenance, illegal rent increase, discrimination;   
  • get information on your rights and responsibilities as a tenant or a prospect tenant

    A one-stop, drop-in service to help people with their practical housing problems.  Provides assistance regarding housing emergencies, evictions, locating housing, maintenance and repair problems and illegal rents.  Caseworkers are available to clients who require support in looking for housing.

    ALZHEIMER DAY AWAY PROGRAMS
    Programs for people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer=s disease who are living at home are offered one to two days per week at a cost of $15 to $20 per day including a hot lunch, plus $5 for transportation.

    An expert staff and volunteers provide a loving and interesting Day Away Program for people suffering from Alzheimer=s Disease.  This program gives them and their family members the chance to socialize and enjoy themselves.  Clients are treated with dignity and respect.  All aspects of the program promote a sense of accomplishment, well-being, body awareness and positive self-esteem.  The program structure is flexible and activities are determined by the client=s functional ability.

    Provides support services for seniors who require assistance to remain in their homes. A link-up with paid workers at reasonable rates is available for house cleaning, sitter service, escort service, minor household repairs, snow shovelling, yard work and odd jobs. Volunteer services include friendly visiting, driving to medical appointments and telephone assurance programme (TAP). Information, referral and advocacy are provided by staff. The luncheon club programme, run by staff and volunteers, is a supported group for people who are socially isolated and unable to take public transportation.

    Using volunteers and paid workers, provides assistance to senior citizens to enable them to live independently in their own homes. Information and referral, friendly visiting, telephone assurance programme (TAP), transportation to medical appointments (small fee), lunch programme (wheels to meals, small fee), VON foot care clinics (fee), free grocery shopping shuttle service. Services available at a reasonable cost by service workers include: yard maintenance, show removal, light and heavy house cleaning, minor repairs, Free income tax clinic for seniors and disabled.
                    Area served: North of Queensway - Woodroffe to western Ottawa city limits, South of Queensway to Baseline Rd and
                    from Clyde to western city limits.
